Putnam
school board
welcomes new
student reps
PUTNAM — Three new student representatives joined the Board of Education for the 2023-2024 school year.
Seniors Kaya Pernini, Brady Devlin, and Savannah Loiselle made their debut at the Sept. 19 regular meeting of the Putnam BOE and shared highlights from around the district on the opening of school, special programs and projects, and upcoming events.
The Student Representatives have ambitious dreams and goals after they graduate from Putnam High School and are taking their new role very seriously.
Pernini is interested in pursuing a career in STEM and “feels student reps are important because we share the positives and news of the month of the Putnam education system. It’s an honor to share these insights with the town.”
Devlin wants to pursue a career in sports management, and Loiselle is excited to explore multiple interests in college before deciding on a career path. All the student representatives said they are proud of Putnam High School for the close connection teachers make with students, and the positive and supportive atmosphere. They believe that student representatives are important because they provide a compelling youth perspective on topics that are usually only discussed by adults.
In a recent conversation with the board Chairperson Jill Zangerl and Superintendent Steven Rioux, Zangerl said: “Student board members provide an important voice, sharing insights into how our decisions truly affect life within our classrooms. This partnership not only gives students the opportunity to expand their own skills but also to positively impact the entire district. I look forward to working with our new student board members this year to further our mission of providing engaging and diverse learning experiences.”
Rioux added: “Having student representatives be a part of a community board meeting is important. It is critical for board members to hear directly from the most important people they are elected to support: the students. We are fortunate to have dedicated seniors who are volunteering their time to give back to the school system by serving on the Board.”
Board members said they are excited to work with this dynamic trio throughout the school year and values the voices of their student stakeholders.
