Driver turns himself in after accident
PUTNAM — The Putnam Police Department said the driver of one of the cars involved in an accident Oct. 14 on Woodstock Avenue fled the scene but later turned himself in.
The two-car motor vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Woodstock Avenue and Van Den Noort Street. A 2009 Mazda 6 operated by Heaven Lowell, 19, of N. Grosvenordale, was attempting to make a left turn onto Van Den Noort Street from Woodstock Avenue when a 2006 Chrysler Sebring crashed into the Mazda as it attempted to pass the Mazda on the left over the solid double yellow line. The Sebring went onto the sidewalk, hit a stone wall, and almost hit a pedestrian. Witnesses said the occupants of the Chrysler then fled the scene on foot. The operator reported minor injuries and she and her passenger were evaluated by Putnam EMS and refused transport. Plainfield Police's K-9 search was unsuccessful. Later that night, the driver who had fled the scene turned himself in to the Putnam Police Department. Issac Johnson, 19, of N. Main St., Moosup received a misdemeanor summons for evading responsibility, passing in no passing zone, traveling unreasonably fast, and failure to drive right.
