Teams sought
for volleyball
fund-raiser
PUTNAM — The Putnam Lions Volleyball Challenge (PLVC) is on!  This event is a fun-filled time for all participating Volleyball players as well as the largest fund-raiser of the year for the Putnam Lions.
This year’s tournament is being held March 14 and 15 in the Pomfret School Strongfield House.  This facility is the best Indoor Volleyball facility in northeastern New England.  The facility contains four courts which makes all the teams active and in continual competition.  Referees are provided.
Co-Ed teams compete for cash prizes and the coveted traveling PLVC trophy.  Individual prizes for raising pledge amounts will also be awarded.  Complementary food, beverages, snacks and t-shirts will be available to players.

Spelling bee raises $13,000
DANIELSON — The QVCC Foundation hosted their sixth annual spelling bee Jan. 22 raising more than $13,000 for students at QVCC.
The Putnam Bank “Money Mavens” brought home the gold medal this year. Team “Wolf Pack” of Hyde School received second place and silver medals. The sentimental crowd favorite, The QVCC Student team, received bronze medals, which was the best showing for a student team in six years. The fabulous, four, female QVCC student team-members were Sondra Adams, Putnam; Kasie Bouchard, Putnam; Joyce Gao, New London; and Sheena Gianquinto, Dayville. The Putnam Rotary Club’s team placed eighth.
In addition to the contest, an award for best costume is handed out each year. This year there was a tie between “The Dragon Flies” of Day Kimball Healthcare and “The Loan Sharks” from Northeastern CT Healthcare Credit Union.
