Day Kimball
PUTNAM — Laurie Thompson, a laboratory support technician for Day Kimball Hospital, has been named employee of the month for January by Day Kimball Healthcare (DKH).
Thompson possesses extensive hospital laboratory experience and customer service skills and has been with DKH for nearly 20 years. She is responsible for processing specimens and lab samples and accurately dispatching them to the appropriate department. She also works closely with the DKH network of phlebotomists and handles phone calls from various providers, doctors and patients.
Thompson, who grew up in South Boston, served three years in the U.S. Army and four years in the National Guard. She currently lives in Putnam with her partner Frank and her dog, Coco Lopez.

DAYVILLE — Westview Health Care Center kicks off its 2016 Health Educational Seminar series by hosting board certified geriatric specialist Dr. Joe Botta from Joseph J. Botta, M.D. and Associates in Putnam for a free health educational seminar at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24.
The topic will be “Seniors and Medications,” which is intended to help seniors and caregivers discover the ways medications may impact health and independence. All welcome and light refreshments will be served.Reserve by calling Christine Zadora at (860) 774-8574 extension 110.

WOODSTOCK — The 2016 Quiet Corner Garden Club $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who lives in the Quiet Corner, has been accepted to a college majoring in agriculture, landscape design, horticulture, or other environmental science. This scholarship will be awarded based on a combination of academic achievement, leadership qualities, community service, letter of recommendation and the student’s essay.

The Scholarship Program’s main fund-raising source is an annual Plant Sale, which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon May 7 at Roseland Cottage, Rt. 169.
