Private Connor M. Vassar, 18, of Putnam graduated from U.S. Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., Nov. 4.
Private Vassar enlisted in the Marine Corps on Aug. 8 and successfully completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training as one of 73 recruits in Papa Company, Platoon 4050.
While in recruit training Private Vassar achieved: Expert Marksman, First Class Combat Fitness Test and First-Class Physical Fitness Test.
Private Vassar is a 2022 graduate of Putnam High School, where he excelled in academics as the seventh-ranking student of his class. He was also a member of the track, basketball and soccer teams.
Following his 10-day leave, Private Vassar will report to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., for one month at Military Combat Training. Then he will report to Military Occupation Specialty School at The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.
Private Vassar, who’s MOS is 0631, Network Administrator, will train in installing network components, monitoring network security and maintaining services to maintain command and control.
Private Vassar is the son of Michael S. and Michelle A. (Daviau) Vassar of Putnam. He recently was installed as the newest member of The American Legion Mayotte-Viens Post #13 of Putnam, where his father serves as post commander.
