POMFRET — The Pomfret Community School Lady Eagles had an amazing season due to talent and hard work, according to coach Karen Clarke. Captains, Anna Hernandez and Elise Coyle led the team to an 8-2 regular season record. They also recorded a win against Rectory in a scrimmage.
As season champs, the girls advanced to the finals as the number 1 seed. They defeated the number 4 seed Putnam in a narrow contest 35-31.
PCS went on to the finals with a win over the number 2 seed Ashford. By halftime the Eagles were up by seven points. That lead shrank going into the third quarter with PCS up by five. Leaving everything on the court in the fourth quarter PCS took it away.
“Our power defense stepped up and shut down Ashford. Our girls went on to score 17 points in the last quarter, while Ashford posted only four points to the scoreboard. Elise Coyle led the board with 21 points, followed by Kealyn Lamarche with 20, Anna Hernandez had 11, Grace Berberian had 8, and Addy Shaw had 1 from the free throw line! The final score was 61-43!”
Said Clarke: “I could not be more privileged to have been afforded the opportunity to coach such a wonderful group of athletes and young women. Pomfret should be very proud of this extraordinary basketball team!”
