American Legion Post
scholarship available
PUTNAM — The Mayotte-Viens American Legion Post #13 Scholarship applications are now available from the Putnam High School Guidance Department. Paper or electronic applications can be obtained from Mrs. Lee or call 860-963-6905.
Completed applications are due in the Putnam High School Guidance Office or to the American Legion Scholarship Committee by April 1. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. The scholarship will be announced and awarded in June.
The $500 non-renewable scholarship is available to any graduating senior or home-school student who is a resident of Putnam or Pomfret, regardless of high school attended. Applicants must be a child, grandchild or sibling of a veteran, living or deceased, or currently on active duty. The student does not need to be affiliated with the American Legion.
The American Legion Scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement, leadership, service and a personal statement.
Ron Coderre, commander of Post 13, said, “I hope that all family members of veterans will consider applying for this patriotic scholarship. This is our way of thanking area veterans for their service to this great Country.”
