Man charged with striking dog with 2x4
PUTNAM — Putnam Police arrested a man Jan. 29 after a report of a male striking a dog with a 2x4 in the area of Church and Lafayette streets.
Police Chief Christopher Ferace said responding officers found the man matching the description of the suspect with a 6-month-old German Shepherd under a vehicle nearby. Chisholm “indicated” the dog belonged to him. The puppy showed signs of physical injury.
Matthew J. Chisholm, 42, of no certain address was charged with cruelty to animals and second degree breach of peace.
The dog was turned over to the care of NECCOG Animal Control for evaluation and veterinary care. All accused are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
