E. ‘Champ’ Lariviere,
WWII vet
PUTNAM — Ernest “Champ” Lariviere, 88, of Seward Street died Feb. 6, 2010, at home.
He was the husband of Dorothy (Lepine) Lariviere for 62 years.
Born in 1921 in Putnam, he was the son of the late Adelard and Dorila (Brodeur) Lariviere.
Mr. Lariviere worked as a mold maker for American Standard Co.
He had also worked for the former Cluett & Peabody Co. and the Putnam Woolen Mill.
He was a World War II and Korea conflict veteran.
He was a member of Cargill Council 64 Knights of Columbus and served as a Boy Scout Scoutmaster for many years. He enjoyed traveling to Florida and caring for his dog Chip.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his brother, Adelard Lariviere and his wife Jenny of Webster; a brother-in-law, Eugene LeClair of South Carolina; two sister-in-laws, Muriel Lariviere, and Shirley Dowgiewicz and her husband Edward, all of Webster; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Raymond E. Lariviere, his brother, Laurent “McGee” Lariviere and his sister Jeanne LeClair.
The Mass of Christian Burial was Feb. 9 at Most Holy Trinity Church, Pomfret, with burial with military honors in St. Mary Cemetery.

Harry A. Vanasse,

KILLINGLY — Harry A. Vanasse, 92, of Pineville Road, husband and father, died Feb. 2, 2010, at home.
He was born Sept. 21, 1917, in Putnam, son of the late Arthur and Alice Vanasse. He retired in 1987 after 23 years from the former Mansfield State Training School. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed gardening and traveling with his wife. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He leaves his wife of 68 years, Grace (Larkin) Vanasse, seven children: Ronald Vanasse of Killingly, Carole Harwood of Putnam, Dennis Vanasse of Putnam, Lee Marquis of Thompson, David Vanasse of Putnam, Gary Vanasse of Killingly, Stephen Vanasse of Killingly; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a granddaughter Grace Sliva. He leaves “Taco.” his faithful pet of 12 years.

Genevieve Helt,

PUTNAM — Genevieve J. “Gen” Helt, 75, of Putnam died Feb. 3, 2010, following multiple medical problems. She was born Genevieve Josephine Mikrut on March 17, 1934, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Walter and Marie (Olpinski) Mikrut.
Genevieve graduated from Bay Ridge High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., and went on to a career as an administrative professional, which included 10 years at Howard Brothers Manufacturing in Auburn, Mass., and 15 years at Kenyon Oil/Xtra Mart in Quinebaug. Her career led her to become a member of the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), formerly known as Professional Secretaries International (PSI), of which she was the former president of the Southbridge Chapter. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary / Albert J. Breault Post 1523 in Putnam where she also tended bar for many years. She had also tended bar at the VFW post in Quinebaug, and at the former Irish American Club in Putnam.
She leaves a daughter, Lauretta M. Helt, of San Diego; two sons, Leonard M. Helt of Putnam, and Lawrence M. Helt of Dudley; daughter-in-law Eileen Helt of Webster. The youngest of ten children, she leaves two sisters, Florence Zubikowski of St.. Petersburg, Fla., and Stephanie Swenson of Lebanon, N.J.. She also leaves nieces and nephews, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Genevieve did not wish to have a wake or funeral, but rather have people remember her as they knew her. A Memorial Service will be held later and she will be laid to rest in Pine Island, N.Y. Wilfred Denome,

PUTNAM — Wilfred Denome, 81, of Vandale St, Putnam, died Feb. 3, 2010, at home. He was the husband of Jeanne (Jolicoeur) Denome.
Born Dec. 24, 1928, in Putnam, he was the son of Wilfred and Bernadette Denome. He was employed at American Standard for 30 years, avid golfer, and was a 22-year member of Quinnatisset Country Club.
He leaves his wife of 59 years; children, David Denome of Santa Rosa, Calif., Diane Fleming of Peabody, Mass.; granddaughter, Jenna Fleming of Peabody.

John S. Horne,

DAYVILLE — John S. Horne, 67, of Laurel Drive, died unexpectedly Feb. 4, 2010, at home. He was the husband of Joyce (Conrad) Horne. He was born May 20, 1942 in Youngstown, Ohio, son of the late William F. and Helen (Simon) Horne.
John was a retired attorney with Wheaton, Boyd and Horne in Putnam. He was a retired captain in the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Vietnam war. He had made his home in Killingly for more than 30 years, a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Dayville. He served on the Board of Directors of the Williamsville Fire Department, a member of the Killingly Democratic Town Committee and a member of the Northeastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce. John was a member of the Bar Association in Connecticut and Illinois. He was active for many years with the Danielson Little League. For the last five years John has been the site manager at the Little River Acres in Putnam.
He leaves his wife of 40 years, Joyce; his children, Jennifer Schwartz and her husband Albert of Stony Point, N.Y., John Horne Jr. of Mansfield, Mass., James Horne and his wife Erin of Milton, Mass.; grandchildren, Avery, AJ, Evan; a brother, William Horne Sr. of Naperville, Ill.; niece and a nephew.
The Mass of Christian Burial was Feb. 8, at St. Joseph Church, Dayville, with military honors, with burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Frances Maynard,

PUTNAM — Frances McCormac Maynard, 92, died peacefully Feb. 5, 2010, at Matulaitis Nursing Home surrounded by her family. She was born April 22, 1917, in Webster, the last of 13 children born to Andrew and Katherine (Majka) Stelmach.
She was the wife of the late John E. McCormac whom she married in 1933. Mr. McCormac died January 1964. She later married Perne R. Maynard September 1981. Mr. Maynard died December 1997.
A devout Catholic, she kept God close to her heart by saying the rosary and attending daily Mass. Frances was an accomplished artist with some of her work being displayed and sold at the Gift Shop at Day Kimball Hospital. Frances belonged to the Daughters of Isabella, Cosmos Club and the Royal Travelers. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards and watching the Boston Red Sox and the UConn women’s basketball team. Frances was a waitress in many local restaurants including Joe’s Wagon, Ben Grosvenor Inn and the Colonial Club. She managed the coffee shop at Day Kimball Hospital for over 20 years.
She leaves six children, Patricia (Robert) Lohneiss of Melbourne, Fla., Jane (Paul) LoPresti of Preston, John (Dorothy) McCormac of Putnam, Paul (Lorraine) McCormac of Avon Park, Fla., Maureen (Eugene) McMerriman of Brooklyn, Kathleen (William) Espinosa of Putnam; 26 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 11, at St. Mary Church of the Visitation, Putnam with burial in the spring in Calvary Cemetery, Webster. Esther Wyeth,

W. WOODSTOCK — Esther Collins Wyeth of Perrin Road died Feb. 1, 2010, at Westview Nursing Care. She was born Sept. 7, 1915, daughter of the late John and Emma Collins of Woodstock. She was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Paul K. Wyeth in 1996; her first husband, Clarence Fairfield, in 1983, sister Sylvia Marcy, and brothers, Spencer, Sigfred, John and Conrad Collins.
Esther was a graduate of Woodstock Academy in 1933. She worked as the cook at Taylors School in Woodstock, and was also employed at the American Optical in Southbridge and the Stillwater Mills in Woodstock. In later years, she managed Westwind Kennels at Perrin Road.
A lifelong resident of Woodstock, Esther loved her family and her home, and living in New England. She enjoyed her gardens, her cats and dogs, and the beautiful woods near her house. She was naturally creative and artistic and in her youth drew sketches of the fashions of the 1930’s. In June of 1938, Esther travelled to Sweden to visit relatives. She was a wonderful cook, and had a gracious charm and hospitality. Esther loved to visit with friends and family around the warmth of her fireplace. She baked cookies, pies, and breads for neighbors and family, for the volunteer firefighters’ barbecues, and other occasions. She was known for her quick wit and gentle sense of humor. Esther was generous, encouraging and a great listener. She enjoyed history, antiques, reading, and working crossword puzzles.
She leaves a son, Steven Fairfield and companion, Kitty Koss of Woodstock; daughter, Melody Dunlop and her husband, Charles of Asheville, N,C,; a sister, Juliette Christensen of Asheville; nieces and nephews.

Mary T. Auger
DOVER, N.H. --- Mary T. Auger, 72, died Jan. 17, 2010, at the Mass General Hospital, Boston. She was born in Newfoundland May 22, 1937, daughter of Peter and Anne Marie (Hann) Culleton. She had worked at the Base Exchange at Pease Air Force Base until her retirement.
Her husband Roland R. Auger died Jan. 29, 2009.
She leaves five sons, Randall R. Auger of Kittery, Maine, Lawrence (Lisa) Auger of Rollinsford, N.H., David Auger and his fiancee Beth of Strafford, N.H., Steven Auger (Jennifer) of Barrington and Dan Culleton of Newfoundland; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Jenny DeSouza of Bermuda and Kitty Flynn of Newfoundland; one brother, Michael Culleton of Canada. She was the daughter-in-law of the late Roland and Gabrielle Auger of Putnam and also the sister-in-law of Claire Louise Gates of Putnam, Jeanne (Albert) Santiago of Teaticket, Mass., Albert (Jean) Auger of Thompson, Benny (Anne) Auger of Marlborough and George (Bernice) Auger of Durham, N.C.
