Three local towns will receive federal stimulus money geared toward "green" projects.
Putnam is slated to receive $51,905 which will be used to make the heating system in the Town Hall more efficient, according to Town Administrator Douglas M. Cutler. "The system is not doing its job right now," he said. Making the system more efficient may involve adding baseboards or something as simple as moving the thermostats.
In Pomfret First Selectman Jim Rivers said the $37,060 will be used for new windows and doors at the Town Hall. He said the current windows are 60 years old.
Woodstock's grant of $48,709 will not cover the cost of renovating the heating and cooling system at the Town Hall, according to First Selectman Allan D. Walker Jr. The total cost of replacing the system would be around $160,000 and this is not the year to add to the budget for the balance. Walker said he will work on finding the balance of the cost.
