PUTNAM --- Generations of BBQ sit under one roof at 84 Providence St.
Under the watchful eye of owner Ralph Lechausse, Gran'daddy's Smokehouse and BBQ opened in September, serving southern-style smoked foods, comfort foods and more. They also do catering.
Lechausse said he started with a roadside camper and expanded into a shared space with a business in Danielson. He outgrew that and moved to the current location.
He chose this style of cooking because it's the cooking he grew up with. "They are family recipes," he said. His grandfather is from Tennessee and many recipes come from him. A smokehouse stands outside the small restaurant and he smokes everything from hams, turkeys, sausages and slab bacon. He also is taking special orders for Easter .
Lachausse picked Putnam because it's a "good area, well traveled." He added, "Putnam is a nice town, it's a good town to be in."
