PUTNAM --- The St. Mary boys' basketball team cleaned up during last weekend's 395 League Tournament winning the semifinal : St. Mary 68 - St. James 37 and winning the finals: St. Mary 51, St. Louis (Webster) 29.
Highlights include St. Mary continuing on their undefeated season (19-0) by winning the tournament. March 13 was a total team effort with Austin Miller leading the scoring with 18. Will Bourgeois added 14 and Trent Peters 12. The Hawks committed 7 turnovers for the entire game and commanded the game from the outset.
March 14 found St. Mary trailing after 5 minutes for only the second time this season. Will Bourgeois dominated the glass (16 rebounds) and the scoring (27 points) against a very aggressive St. Louis team that had upset on their minds. Austin Miller added 9 for the Hawks. The normally well-balanced scoring attack was affected by the defense of St. Louis, which kept within 10 points with just under ten minutes to play. Bourgeois went on a personal 12-0 run to put St. Mary up for good.
St. Mary looks to continue its run in the Norwich Diocesan Tournament which will be held this weekend.
