PUTNAM --- Day Kimball Healthcare announces that 17-year employee, Patrice Bernier, the laboratory’s lead point of care/waived testing technician is the hospital’s April Employee of the Month.
“This is such an exciting honor,” said Bernier. “I am surprised and nearly speechless to be chosen as the employee of the month. I appreciate the team that I work with and enjoy assisting the physicians in precisely diagnosing patients.”
Best known as Patti to her peers, Bernier has held several positions within the organization. In 2005, Bernier was appointed the laboratory’s lead immunology/serology technician and last year took on a new role as the point of care/waived testing technician while consulting for Day Kimball Healthcare’s Physician Services of Northeast Connecticut division. Bernier recently became nationally certified as a point of care specialist from the American Association of Clinical Chemistry. Her daily responsibilities include but are not limited to running tests to help determine diagnoses and overseeing compliance.
Recently, Bernier was approved to become Day Kimball’s full time point of care/waived testing coordinator. Waived tests are simple laboratory tests that have a low risk of error. This position includes all aspects of regulatory compliance with such testing. She will monitor compliance throughout many Day Kimball Healthcare locations where waived testing is required to be performed including within the hospital. Bernier said of her new role, “Branching out into the physician practices and monitoring compliance allows me to meet new people and share my laboratory knowledge for accurate diagnoses in the office setting.”
Bernier is a 1981 graduate of Salve Regina University earning a bachelor's in medical technology. Before coming to Day Kimball, Bernier gained experience in the laboratory by interning at Rhode Island Hospital.
Bernier currently lives in Thompson with her husband Alan and the couple has two children together. Her hobbies include jewelry making and water-related activities such as boating, skiing, fishing, and canoeing.
