PUTNAM --- Officials are investigating a suspicious fire that leveled a vacant home April 24.
The three-story building had burned in 2007 and had since been used for firefighter training. Because fire departments had cut open the roof for training a few years ago, that left the building vulnerable for rapid fire spread.
David Cutler, chief of the East Putnam Fire Department said the fire departments who responded were: East Putnam, Putnam, Attawaugan, Dayville, Community, Putnam EMS (Ambulance). The call came in around 12:45 a.m. and East Putnam was there till around 9 a.m. Cutler said the building was "100 percent involved" when firefighters arrived so it was an "exterior attack only." No injuries were reported.
The building is on Park Road between Putnam Ford and Tegrant Corporation. Fire Marshal Normand Perron said he believes someone set the fire.
