THOMPSON — Gedas Bertasius of Marianapolis Preparatory School signed a letter of commitment to Division 1 Dartmouth College May 26. Bertasius was a top scorer at Marianapolis this year, leading the team to a 22-8 season and a trip to the New England Prep School Championship Game. He scored 490 points in 28 games for Marianapolis, averaging 17.5 points per game and 79 three-pointers.
Bertasius is ranked # 49 in the state, and #98 in New England by New England Recruiting Report and was # 1 in Eastern CT. He earned a spot on the first Class B All New England Team.
Before coming to Marianapolis, Bertasius was a member of the summer 2010 U19 Lithuanian National Team. He is also an honor roll student with an SAT math score of 800. Bertasius will receive a full financial aid package to Dartmouth.
Coach Dave Vitale characterizes Bertasius as “great on and off the court and the kind of kid you want to be around. I expect him to continue to succeed at the college level.”
A Lithuanian native, for Bertasius, coming to America to go to college and play basketball is a fulfillment of a dream.

THOMPSON --- Marianapolis basketball star Matt Barboza signed a National Letter of Intent to Franklin Pierce University May 26.
Before coming to Marianapolis, Barboza played varsity basketball for repeat state champs Bishop Hendricken High School. A native of East Providence, Barboza averaged 10.5 points per game for Marianapolis, as well as 8.2 rebounds and 5 assists. He was named the team’s outstanding defensive player, earned an honorable mention in the Class B New England Prep School league and is ranked 45th in the state by New England Recruiting Report.
Marianapolis head coach Dave Vitale said, “Matt’s been great. He’s probably the guy that brings the most energy and leadership to the team on a consistent basis. Even when it goes sour, he’s the hardest working guy we have on our team. The extra year has really helped Matt and when he puts a little more weight and muscle on he’s going to be a really good player in the NE-10.”
