Temperatures might have been soaring, but so were spirits at the 121 commencement exercises at Woodstock Academy June 27.
The occasional parasol or umbrella helped some proud parents beat the heat at the outdoor commencement. But nothing dampened their pride. Lead in by the Manchester Pipe Band, which included several Woodstock Academy alumni, students listened as Danielle Rae Strandson, class president, welcomed her classmates and spoke of the trials and tribulations the class has faced.
The theme continued as Courtney Rhea Trahan, winner of the Kathryn Robertson Essay Award, read her winning essay, "Using Mistakes and Setbacks to Build a Bright Future," in the graduation address.
The winner of the coveted Yale Honor cups were Emily Swenson and Timothy Curry. The winners of the Donald and Hope williams Scholarships for Outstanding Academic Achievement were: Swenson, Curry, Nicole Bowen and John Bartolotta.
In the continuing tradition of never leaving the headmaster empty-handed, graduates exchanged a Monopoly piece for their sheepskins.
The valedictorian is Nicole Bowen and the salutatorian is John Bartolotta.
