Old drugs
head for
incineration

As part of a national effort, the Sept. 25 National Prescription Drug Take Back effort scored huge.
In a few short hours officials from the Putnam Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Putnam PRIDE organization collected nearly 130 pounds of old prescription drugs. Residents drove between the cones and placed bags of old prescription drugs into larger containers. Those drug bottles were boxed up and were to be incinerated by the federal Drug Enforcement Agency.
PRIDE officials heard many variations on "I've been waiting for 20 years" to do this. Calling it a success, officials are looking into doing this every year, according to Town Administrator Douglas M. Cutler.
