PUTNAM — Putnam Bank will be going greener than ever this month to show its support for The Last Green Valley, the member-supported non-profit organization working locally to preserve the irreplaceable land, water, and cultural resources of northeast Connecticut.
Jan. 23 through 29, any Putnam Bank customer who signs up for Putnam Bank’s environmentally friendly eStatements will be rewarded with a free membership to The Last Green Valley. In addition, all of the bank’s eight branches will be decorated in green lights that week to help raise awareness of The Last Green Valley’s Green Light Campaign, which aims to raise $100,000 to support its important programs.
The memberships to The Last Green Valley are a $25 value, and come with many benefits, including: Invitations to monthly member programs, events, and activities in The Last Green Valley; a quarterly newsletter and guides to local attractions, events, hiking trails and farms; access to land use, historical and natural resource data; family participation in The Acorn Club’s special activities for children 12 and under; a beautiful reusable shopping bag made from recycled materials and with The Last Green Valley logo.
Among other programs, The Last Green Valley is the organizer of the very popular Walktober event. Providing free memberships, while supplies last, to its environmentally concerned customers promotion is Putnam Bank’s way of helping to keep these programs alive.
“We’re really proud of the fact that Putnam Bank is right in the heart of The Last Green Valley,” said Senior Vice President and Branch Administrator Lynn Brodeur. “We hope that this program helps residents here begin to recognize how beautiful and unique the region is. We are truly in a green oasis between Boston and New York.”
In 1994, Congress designated the Quinebaug and Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor to recognize this region as a unique national resource. In 1999, Congress enlarged the Corridor to include Quinebaug and Shetucket River Valley towns in Massachusetts and Connecticut, now numbering 35. The Connecticut municipalities are: Ashford, Brooklyn, Canterbury, Chaplin, Coventry, Eastford, Franklin, Griswold, Hampton, Killingly, Lebanon, Lisbon, Mansfield, Norwich, Plainfield, Pomfret, Preston, Putnam, Scotland, Sprague, Sterling, Thompson, Union, Voluntown, Windham, and Woodstock.
