PUTNAM --- Day Kimball Healthcare anticipates moving some of its departments into the former Brooks Pharmacy on School Street, possibly by the end of the year.
Charlene Leith-Bushey, Day Kimball's director of communications, said architectural design reviews are underway now and the renovations would probably be completed by the end of the year.
Once that happens several departments will move into the new space, including Franklin Home Health which was recently purchased by Day Kimball Healthcare's Physician Services of Northeast Connecticut service division.
The renovated space will be called Putnam Healthcare Center. Day Kimball's Putnam Physical Medicine Department and its blood draw services will move from the hospital building to the new location, she said. That move will allow the expansion of the hospital's Emergency Department.
Leith-Bushey said Franklin Home Health was purchased last September. "That acquisition will allow patients served by any Day Kimball Healthcare Service Division easier access to the durable medical equipment they need, when they need it. An inventory of common supplies and equipment will be kept in most of the physician practices, and the retail store located in Putnam will provide walk-in customers with their home health medical supply needs as well as their equipment rentals and purchases," she said.
In its announcement to its corporators Day Kimball said it had acquired "Franklin Home Health, a respected Putnam-based purveyor of home health medical supplies as well as durable medical equipment rentals and sales. This acquisition allows us to further diversify our income channels and pass cost savings onto patients and customers."
Leith-Bushey said two employees from Franklin Home Health are remain: Suzanne Franklin and Renee Turski. "Their depth of knowledge of this line of business gives confidence to returning and new customers to expect exceptional customer service," she said.
The company was founded by the Franklin family in 1990 and moved to its Putnam location on Providence Street several years ago from the Little River Plaza in Woodstock.
Leith-Bushey said Franklin Home Health will stay at 149 Providence St. until it can move to the new Putnam Healthcare Center.
