Qualifying Norwich area families facing the often-daunting task of tax return preparation can receive free assistance at Putnam Bank’s Norwich branch through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) through April 8.
The program, which is officially sponsored by the Internal Revenue Services (IRS), provides free tax return preparation services to low- and moderate-income families who earn up to $50,000 per year. Tax forms are prepared by IRS certified and trained volunteers, and Putnam Bank offers the use of desk and work space, printers, office supplies and free parking. Appointments for assistance with tax return preparation are available from 2 to 4 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays. Those who qualify and are in need of assistance are encouraged to call (860) 531-VITA (8482) to schedule an appointment. Services are available at other locations and other days as well, contact Connecticut 211 for more information.
“This is what community banking is all about,” said Putnam Bank CEO Thomas A. Borner. “We work hard to help make sure that our community is strong and financially stable. Families using the VITA program are laying the groundwork for a strong financial future."
