The Under-16 NECONN Tigers soccer team “brought home the gold” last weekend.  They participated in the Cheshire Memorial Weekend Tournament, not losing a single match and eventually winning the championship game.
The final game was the toughest match of the day.  Tied at the end of regulation time, the game advanced to “sudden death” overtime.  With no goals scored in overtime, the winner was determined by penalty kicks, with NECONN prevailing.
Aside from the penalty kicks, NECONN did not allow a single goal to be scored on them throughout the entire tournament.
“The whole team played with heart, determination, and persistence,” said coach Syd Blodgett.  “Several of the players had school-related commitments and could not attend  some, or even any, of the tournament games.  The ‘mental toughness’ of those who were able to play was truly impressive.”
