PUTNAM --- Residents are invited to look over the former Armory June 22 and then give the committee pondering what do with facilities in town their opinion on what would be the best use for the building.
Allan Rawson, chairman of the Facilities Study Group, said the former armory will be open from 3 to 6 p.m. June 22. Members of the committee will be there to talk with people and explain what's available, the structure, and more.
Following those tours, at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall, the group will continue taking comments and then, shortly thereafter, give their recommendations for uses for the building to the Board of Selectmen. "We don't have a timetable per se to go to the Board of Selectmen, but we'd like to do it as soon as possible," Rawson said. After studying the 3-plus acre property next to Murphy Park, the town April 18 bought the property from the state for $500. The new use must be either municipal or recreation.
Having residents go through the building will mean "better feedback" for the study group, Rawson said. Some suggestions from the Town Hall include moving the town's Parks and Recreation department and the school department from the Town Hall to that building.
Rawson added that one female member of the study group had to drop out and the group would welcome one or more female members. If interested, contact the Mayor's Office at 963-6800.
