It’s hard to believe, but it’s that time of year again.
American Legion Baseball season is officially underway. The Tri-Town teams have been built, and the boys are ready to commence the grueling five weeks ahead of them, beginning with their Opening Day ceremony on June 14, with the Presentation of the Colors by Post #13 Honor Guard. The season of American Legion baseball is a rigorous one, and even though it’s a long season given its demanding schedule, it always seems to go by quickly. The Post-Season banquet on July 30 promises to be another fun evening to honor the players and coaches, who have all given so much of their time. It’s also a time to thank the parents for their commitment to the program.
This year the Senior team seems to have a lot of new faces, and some younger players than in years past. Although they may be a young team in age, their talent, dedication and spirit are an inspiration for what will hopefully be a successful season for these young men and their coaches. The Senior team is lead by head coach Paul Faucher, assisted by coach Gary Alves and coach Mark Peterson.
While the focus is typically more on the Senior teams in the AL Program, the Tri-Town Junior team possesses a lot of talent of its own. Along with some new players to that roster as well, the Junior team seems very capable of holding their own. Several of last year’s Jr. players came back to the diamond, ready to play hard, and are a good example for the newcomers to the program. Coaching the Junior’s again this year is head coach Shawn Bates, assisted by coach Scott Marquis.
All home games for the Senior team are played at Tourtellotte Memorial High School field, while the Junior home games are played at the Bentley Complex in Woodstock. Games are free. The banquet on July 30 is open to all. Tickets will be available for purchase throughout the five-week season.
