THOMPSON --- Peter Boguszewski of Putnam  earned the honor of salutatorian at Marianapolis Preparatory School. In a class of 80 students, Boguszewski had the second highest academic record.
Boguszewski excelled in the classroom, in the athletic fields, and in community service. A soccer player since age 5, Boguszewski played the key position of goalie for the varsity soccer team, which were SENE league champs the past two years.
Boguszewski is the third member of his family to graduate from Marianapolis. His older sister Katherine graduated from Marianapolis in 2007, and his brother Adam graduated in the class of 2009. Boguszewski credits his time at Marianapolis as helping him become a more confident, trusting person more open to meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures. Having been a goalie for lacrosse, soccer and playing baseball, Boguszewski says sports, in particular, helped him build relationships.
During his four years at Marianapolis, Boguszewski received many academic honors, was inducted into the National Honor Society as a sophomore, received numerous prizes and awards for academic achievements, and served in leadership roles as a class treasurer, freshman ambassador and wellness leader. Outside of the classroom, Boguszewski volunteered for many fundraising events, like the MS Walk Turkey Dip, Relay for Life, and outside of school was a member of the Putnam Interact Club and Ring-a-Ding fundraiser for the Salvation Army.
In the fall, Boguszewski will attend the University of Rochester where he will study engineering or medicine, possibly pathology. Boguszewski won the University’s Bausch and Lomb award his junior year, and toured the campus last summer and really liked the school’s flexible open-ended curriculum and campus.
His advice to other students is to “if you are going to do something, why not work hard at it,” and “to never settle,” by finding the time to separate work and fun. “Don’t take high school too seriously,” he says, “I studied hard but I still found time to see friends and family.”
Boguszewski says he will really miss is classmates, which he describes as a close knit group, as well as the daily routine of school.
In naming Boguszewski as Salutatorian Headmistress Marilyn S. Ebbitt said, “Peter has served our school in many ways, as an outstanding student, an inspiring athlete and as a leader.  His sense of humor and genuine wit has earned him many friends – among his peers and among the faculty.”
