N. GROSVENORDALE — Dorothy (Downey) Jarvis, 72, of Holmes Street, died July 18, 2011, at home.
Born in 1939 in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Helen (King) Downey.
Mrs. Jarvis worked as a nurse for Hubbard Memorial Hospital, V.A. Hospital in Newington, and Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge.
She was a member of the Danielson Lions Club. She was involved with P.A.W.S. (Pound Animals are Worth Saving).
Dottie leaves her sons, Charles W. John (Renee) of Bronxville, N.Y., Peter W. John II (Cynthia) of Woodstock; daughter Connie Crowell (David) of Greenville, R.I.; brother William Downey of Worcester; a step brother John Belanger; grandchildren Amanda Crowell, Matthew John, Gavin John, and Nathan John.  She was predeceased by her brother, the late Donald Belanger.
Visitation is at 11 a.m. July 30 with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Church of the Visitation, Putnam. Donations: P.A.W.S, P.O. Daniel Paul Rock,
Korean war vet
POMFRET — Daniel P. Rock, 74, of Pomfret went to be with his Lord July 18, 2011.
“Rocky” was born Dec. 8, 1936, IN Massachusetts. The youngest of 13 children, sadly they all became foster children and he never met his siblings.
He served as an underaged Mariner and was in the Korean conflict and was part of the Pork Chop Hill battle.
He worked at American Threat as a supervisor and then at the Mansfield Training School as manager of one of the group homes.
He was involved as treasurer for the hard of hearing group that met in Ashford. He had a passion for cooking and at one time was head chef on weekends at Cabby’s in Manchester. He loved trout fishing and was an avid gardener. He was a collector of model antique cars and classic movies.
He leaves behind his wife Patricia; son, Michael Rock; stepdaughters Sheila and Sherri; stepson Paul.
A memorial will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 6 at Willington Baptist Church, 33 Ruby Road.

William Anderson Sr.,

PUTNAM — William Herbert Anderson Sr., 66, died July 16, 2011, from cancer. He was the husband of the late Sally Lee Anderson. Born Dec. 23, 1944, he was the son of Alvin  and Zelda Anderson.
Herb, as he was known to family members and friends, worked as a machine upkeep operator at Foster Forbes Glass Co. and was shop steward for the union. He enjoyed travel, family, Mother Nature, sincere people and only asked to be comfortable.
He leaves his son, William H. Anderson Jr. of Vaour, France; companion Mary Gibson of Webster; brother Alvin T. Anderson of N. Carolina; sisters, Marjorie Lydic of Ohio and Catherine Thompson of California. He was predeceased by his wife, Sally Lee Anderson.
The Service was July 23 at Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson.

R. ‘Babe’ Hebert Sr.,
Korean war vet
ROGERS — Richard “Babe” R. Hebert Sr., 78, of Rogers, died on July 24, 2011.
The husband of Dorothy (Kaczor) Hebert, they were married on July 9, 1955, at St. Ignatius Church in Rogers.
He was born Nov. 1, 1932, in Goodyear, son of the late Adelard and Marie (Suprenant) Hebert.
He attended local schools including Killingly High School and then entered the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean war aboard the USS John R. Pierce DD753.
He received the Korean Service Medal with one Engagement Star, United Nations Korean Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal.
After his honorable discharge on Dec. 28, 1953, he Hebert worked at Rogers Corporation until his retirement in 1995.
He was a communicant of St. Ignatius Church in Rogers and later St. Joseph church in Dayville.
Babe was an avid UConn Huskies’ and Cincinnati Reds’ fan and enjoyed playing cards and walking
He leaves his wife Dorothy; two sons, Richard Hebert Jr. (Susan) of Stafford Springs, Randy Hebert of Union; a daughter, Diane Casaceli (Steven) of Southborough, Mass.; a brother, Valmore Hebert of Springfield, Mass. He was predeceased by four brothers, Ephreme Palardy, Adelard, Norman and Rene, and seven sisters, Clarice Baker, Albena Couture, Marie Bourque, Rosalind Gosselin, Jean Billings, Cecile Poitras and Doris Mozzer.

Florence M. Duquette,

N. GROSVENORDALE — Florence M. Duquette, 88, of Mountain Hill Road,  died  July 22, 2011.  She was the wife of the late Arsene Duquette.  Born in 1923 IN Grosvenordale, she was the daughter the late George Mailloux and Dora (Bilodeau) Mailloux
Mrs. Duquette worked for Mansfield State Training School for 22 years as a nursing aide.  She enjoyed ceramics and playing bingo.
Florence leaves her five sons, Roland Duquette (Karen) of Putnam, Arsene Duquette (Dale) , Roger Duquette (Deborah) David Duquette, and Kenneth Duquette, all of N. Grosvenordale; daughter, Elaine Akana (Michael) of Thompson; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a brother, Gerald “Pete” Mailloux of Windham.  Florence was predeceased by her son, Maurice Duquette, and daughters, Lorraine Labonte and Precille St. George.

Joseph A.G. Hubert,

DANIELSON — Joseph A. G. “Buck” Hubert, 82, of Danielson died July 22, 2011.
He was the husband of the late Theresa (Raymond) Hubert. She died April 5, 2002.
 He was born on Jan. 26, 1929, in Killingly, son of the late Emile and Marie Anne (Thiebault) Hubert.
Joseph lived in Killingly all his life. He was a communicant of St. James Church. Buck was a member of the Elks for over 30 years.
He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving with the U. S. Army. He was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, UConn Huskies men’s and women’s basketball teams. Buck was an avid golfer, loved to go on cruises to the Caribbean with his wife. Joseph was a builder with his brother and son for over 40 years.  
He leaves two children, Richard Hubert (Robin) of Danielson and Joanne Budzinsky (William) of Brooklyn; grandchildren, Amie Thompson (Greg) of Woodstock, Joelle Budzinsky of Tulsa, Okla., Sarah Hubert of Danielson and great granddaughter Lily Hubert; sister Lucille LaFlame of Danielson. He was predeceased by siblings Beatrice LeQuere, Rita Chenard and William Hubert.
The Mass of Christian Burial was July 26 in St. James Church, Danielson, with burial with military honors in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Titolivio ‘Ted’ Magao,

DANIELSON — Titolivio “Ted” Magao, 88, of Danielson, died July 19, 201, at UMass Medical Center in Worcester. He was the husband of Fernanda (Gonsalves) Magao. They were married in May 1948, New Bedford, Mass.
Ted was born Jan. 15, 1923, in New Bedford, son of the late Alfonso and Maria Jose Amaral Magao.
He was educated in Lisbon, Portugal, and learned the barber profession there. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. After his discharge in 1945, he established his own barber Shop that he operated for over 50 years. He was known to many as “Ted the Barber.”
Ted was a communicant of St. James Church and served as a St. James greeter, member of the Putnam VFW 1523, the Brooklyn Grange where he held many offices. Ted was an avid Red Sox fan.
He leaves his wife Fernanda; son, Gary Magao (Patricia) of Salem; daughter Charlotte Doyle (Gary) of Danielson; grandson, Sean B. Doyle of Putnam. He was predeceased by a grandson Ryan S. Doyle in 2009, brothers Tony Magao and Joe Magao; a sister Nina Beito.

Sister Jeanne-Aimee
Cloutier
MANCHESTER, N.H. — Sister Jeanne-Aimee Cloutier, p.m., (Sr. Henri du Divin-Coeur) 99, of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, Manchester, died July 23, 2011, at St. Joseph Residence.
Born in Cap St. Ignace, PQ in Canada on Oct. 7, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Onesime and Angelina (Ouellet) Cloutier.
She entered the Order of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in Canada in 1935, made her First Profession in 1938 and her Final Profession in 1943.
Sister Jeanne-Aimee received her bachelor’s degree in 1954 and master’s degree in 1962 from Rivier College in Nashua, N.H. In 1981 she received a certification in drug administration from the University of Rhode Island.
From 1938 until 1974, she taught in the Parochial Elementary Schools of Maine, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In 1975 until her retirement in 1998, she served as an aide at the Hospice St. Anthony in Woonsocket, R.I.
She retired in 1998 at the Marie Rivier Cenacle in Hudson, N.H., and transferred to St. Joseph Residence in 2006.
She leaves her sister Nancy Turenne of Putnam; a sister-in-law Lucie Cloutier of Danielson; nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces.
The Mass of Christian Burial was July 25 in the Resurrection Chapel of the St. Marie Residence,  Manchester, with burial in the Presentation of Mary Cemetery, Hudson. Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, Manchester.

Eleanor A. Morano,

BROOKLYN —  Eleanor (Andrews) Morano, 93, of Canterbury Road, formerly of N. Grosvenordale,  died July 14, 2011, in the Pierce Memorial Baptist Home.  Born in 1918 in Los Angeles,, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Eleanor (Underwood) Andrews.
Mrs. Morano was a volunteer during WWII.  Prior to retirement, she worked as a research interviewer for Decision Research.  She was a devout Catholic who at one time owned and operated Contemporary Christian Arts, a Catholic gallery, shop, library and discussion center.  She volunteered in Catholic Worker soup kitchens, a foundling hospital, as nurse’s aide and in a center for child and family services.  Mrs. Morano was extremely interested in issues concerning health and nutrition, constantly exploring and incorporating the latest research in the care of her family.  Being the eldest of eight children, she helped to raise her brothers and sisters after her father’s death as well as rearing two families of her own.
She leaves her sons, William Cosel of Tyringham, Mass.,  and Christopher Morano of Essex; her daughters, Suzanne Whitburn of NYC, N.Y., Lu Morano of Kentfield, Calif., and Francesca Morano of Thompson; her brother, Benjamin Andrews of Greensboro, N.C.; and her sister, Charlotte Griggs of Essex; 11 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her son, Michael Joseph Morano and ex-husbands William Cosel and Michael Morano.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 15 in St. Bernard Church in Vernon. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam.

Gerald Hilsman,

THOMPSON — Gerald T. Hilsman, 70, died July 21,2011, in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.
He was born in Attleboro, Mass., a son of Percy and Viola (Lachapelle) Hilsman.  He was raised in Webster, and moved to Attleboro in the 1950s.  He also lived in Lisbon and Grosvenordale, before moving back to Webster and then to Thompson.  He was a graduate of Attleboro High School.
Mr. Hilsman worked as a manager for Janco Company at Burger Kings in Rhode Island, Webster and Worcester, for 30 years, retiring in 2006.  He attended St. Louis parish.He was an avid golfer and photographer.
He leaves four children, Jay D. Hilsman of Rehoboth, Mass., Khristine V. DeSimone (Rocco) of Lincoln, R.I., Thomas G. Hilsman (Jodi) of Seward, Penn., and Andrew Hilsman of Rehoboth; six grandchildren, Kimberly, Jaclyn, Samantha, Stephen, Clay and Todd; a brother, Norman Hilsman of Fryburg, Maine.

PLAINFIELD — Kathleen Slater Kendzierski, 66, died unexpectedly July 18, 2011, at home.
She was born March 30, 1945, the daughter of the late Grant S. and May (Hall) Slater. She grew up in S. Killingly and lived in Plainfield most of her life. She owned and operated Kathy’s Koiffures and The Spinning Wheel Gift Shoppe.  She graduated Killingly High School Class of 1963 and The Creative School of Hairdressing in Hartford. In her youth she was a member of the S. Killingly Congregational Church where she served as a choir member and Sunday school teacher.
She leaves her husband of 47 years, Michael A. Kendzierski; four daughters, Betty Caldwell (Jeff) of Citra, Fla. Melissa Boozel (Tom) of Erie, Penn., Tammy Roy (Glynn) of Sterling, and Sherry Kendzierski (Bud Michalski) of Clymer, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren, Jared, Ashley, Amber, Zachery, Jayde, Julia, Grace, Lexi, Tayler and Lydia;  one sister, Eileen Niejadlik of Brimfield, Mass.
A Memorial Service was July 22 at Tillinghast Funeral Home, Danielson.
 
Elizabeth Kunkel,

WEBSTER --- Elizabeth M. (Kane) Kunkel, 86, of School Street, died  July 22, 2011, at home. Her husband, John J. Kunkel died July 27, 2007.
She was born in Thompson, daughter of the late Patrick and Elizabeth (Ungerer) Kane and lived in Quinebaug before moving to Webster where she spent most of her life. She was a member of the St. Louis League of Catholic Women. She enjoyed bowling.
She leaves three daughters, Dorinda Wintman (Lewis) of Providence, Deborah George (Anthony) of Webster, and Heidi Kunkel of Webster; her son, John “Jay” Kunkel (Naomi) of Webster; two grandsons, Patrick and Justin Kunkel of Webster. She was predeceased by three brothers, Robert, Henry and James Kane, and by two sisters, Mildred Johnson and Gertrude Kunkel.
The Funeral Mass was July 25 in St. Louis Church, Webster, with burial in Mount Zion Cemetery. Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, Webster.
