Therrien joins
Nichols staff
DUDLEY --- Mark Therrien has joined the Nichols College sports information office staff as the department’s first sports information graduate assistant. He  brings six years of athletics communications experience from many levels to Nichols, where he will begin Aug. 1.
“I’m very excited to have Mark join the Nichols College staff as our first sports information graduate assistant,” said sports information director Hillary Haynes. “He brings a true passion for college athletics and a wide range of talents that will not only bolster our communications efforts, but also enhance our student-athlete experience. With his dedication and experience, I expect him to become an integral part of the Nichols community.”
Therrien spent the last year as a sports information intern at nearby Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he served as the primary contact for men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs while assisting with the publicity of the Engineers’ 18 varsity sports. Therrien also edited all photo content for the athletics website and produced the weekly athletics update.
Therrien has also developed his talents at the Division I level, including time at the College of the Holy Cross and UConn. He served on the Crusaders’ soccer and ice hockey game-day staffs, where he wrote game stories and was the primary StatCrew inputter. As a football game-day staff member at UConn, his duties included moderating in-game chats and assisting with press conferences.
Prior to WPI, Therrien spent time at Worcester State University for six years, earning the Athletic Service Award in 2007. He assisted the Lancers in the early stages of their webcasting initiative and served as the official scorer for volleyball, ice hockey and soccer.
A 1999 Putnam High graduate, Therrien served as the basketball scorekeeper at PHS for local legends Jim Bartolomei, Dave Vitale and Tony Falzarano. He was also the scoreboard operator or scorekeeper for a handful of PHS’ CIAC state tournament contests over the years.
Throughout his career, Therrien has devoted countless hours at conference and NCAA Championships across divisions. In the 2010-11 season alone, he volunteered at five NCAA Championships, including the Division I Men’s Lacrosse Quarterfinals in Foxboro, Mass., and the Division I Women’s Basketball First and Second Rounds in Storrs. He served as the assistant tournament director at the Division III Men’s Basketball First and Second Rounds hosted by WPI in March.
A native of Putnam, he is an Eagle Scout and holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Worcester State University. He is an active member of both CoSIDA and ECAC-SIDA. He lives in Dudley.
