POMFRET --- When bids are opened next week, Pomfret will be able to put the finishing touches on its recreation master plan.
The town's Recreation area, off Rt. 97, already has a pavilion, outbuildings, soccer fields, and baseball fields. Bids are coming in next week to complete two basketball courts and two tennis courts.
First Selectman Jim Rivers said that preparation for the four new courts, plus the beach volleyball court, were done last year. Earth was moved, drainage added and more.
The total cost for finishing the recreation master plan is $270,000, he said. Of that, $150,000 came from a Small Town Economic Assistance Program state grant. The remainder came from donations and money raised by the commission and the town.
Rivers said he hopes the courts will be finished by October.
The town owns 100 acres at the recreation area.
