PUTNAM — Aug. 5 Putnam Bank sponsored a food drive to collect donations for the Daily Bread Food Pantry in Putnam and a large stack of food as well as more than $1,500 were collected.
A banana, a chicken and a Pop Tart were on hand to accept donations from the community; the drive was hosted by WINY Radio. The goal was to fill a stack of boxes towering 6-feet, 2-inches to match the height of Robert J. Halloran Jr., the bank’s president and CFO.
“Through the generosity of the residents of our community, the employees and the directors of Putnam Bank, we exceeded that goal,: said Thomas A. Borner, bank chairman and CEO. In addition to the canned goods and non-perishable food contributions, cash donations totaling $1,035 were received. “Putnam Bank is pleased to continue its support of Daily Bread and recognize the generosity of the community by issuing a check matching $500 of the donations as part of the challenge,” Borner added.
The Daily Bread Food Pantry opened its doors 20 years ago and has operated continuously since that time. The pantry provides emergency food assistance on a regular basis to those in need. Clients receive enough food for three meals for three days plus personal care items.
