Drill
Boy Scout Troop 36 of Moosup recently camped at Roseland Cottage for two nights to explore Civil War history.  A dozen Troop members took part in Rally ‘Round the Flag, a Connecticut Education program.  The Scouts formed a company, marched, and drilled; learned about medical practices and the treatment of wounded soldiers; constructed a one-quarter scale pontoon bridge; practiced the artillery drill; and learned to send encoded messages with signal flags.   Several ambitious Scouts attempted to make hard tack.  The Scouts gave the weekend an “enthusiastic thumbs-up.”  Right: Museum teacher Herb Loughery leads Scouts while they practice the Artillery Drill with the replica cannon.  Photo courtesy of Gail White.
