POMFRET --- Congressman Joe Courtney recently announced that Laborers' International Union of North America training in Pomfret won a $187,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration to train unemployed and underemployed Connecticut workers for jobs in the energy efficiency and green construction industry.
“Investing in construction and the building trades sector has the duel-impact of immediate job growth and long-term infrastructure improvements,” said Congressman Joe Courtney. “This type of grant will make a difference in Pomfret and across Connecticut, ensuring that workers have the support and skills they need to remain on the cutting edge of the workforce.”
LIUNA will provide training to demolition/deconstruction workers who work in the renovation/retrofit and construction resource reclamation sectors of the green construction industry. Topics include cutting and burning and pneumatic tool safety.
A primary goal of the training program is to provide training that helps participants obtain living wage jobs with career growth opportunities.
