POMFRET --- A love of learning and a passion for nursing are common bonds shared by this year’s recipients of Masonicare’s prestigious Norma J. Brandt Nursing Scholarship. A luncheon and reception honoring the 2011 recipients was held August 26 at Masonicare at Ashlar Village in Wallingford.
The Norma J. Brandt Scholarship Fund was established in 2006 through a generous gift to The Masonic Charity Foundation of Connecticut from John O. Brandt Jr. of Pomfret Center in memory of his wife, Norma, a registered nurse who loved nursing and dedicated her life to helping others. Mr. Brandt is a Mason from Putnam Lodge No. 46 in S. Woodstock. The scholarship provides individuals pursuing a career in nursing with financial assistance towards their coursework. The Brandt Scholarship program is helping more nursing students each year, growing from one recipient in 2006 to a total of 13 new and continuing recipients in 2011.
The recipients of the 2011 Brandt Scholarship are: Elizabeth Danby of Southington, Yalitza Garcia of Berlin, Suzette Knickerbocker of Wallingford, and Alyssa Nadolny of Wallingford, Masonicare Health Center employees; Nikki Stone of Wallingford, daughter of a Masonicare Health Center employee; Stephen Murphy of Southington; Kelsey Reutenauer of Branford; and Vania Violante of Wolcott, an employee at Masonicare at Newtown.
