PUTNAM --- A benefit walk for the Coach Jim Greenhalgh Scholarship Fund will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 8 at the St. Marie/Greenhalgh Sports Complex. The four-hour fund-raising walk to raise funds to help send Putnam High School Students to the college of their choice will take place rain or shine.
Jim Phaiah of Jimmy’s Kids Foundation, will be taking part. "As a former student athlete of coach Jim Greenhalgh and founder of Jimmy's Kids Foundation, it is my honor and pleasure to do a fund-raising walk," said Phaiah.
"This wonderful man helped inspire me to want to live, to survive the physical and mental child abuse that I was going through. He did it by his words, wisdom and intellect, rather than by the sting of a leather belt, a back hand or other abuse! I am blessed to have known this wonderful, caring man that I am proud to call my friend and my coach," he added.
Greenhalgh coached football, basketball and baseball for many years at Putnam High School. He also taught Physical Education and, in later years, was a guidance counselor at Putnam High.
Pledge sheets can be obtained from at WINY, Putnam High School, Midtown Fitness, Chase Graphics, Loomis Real Estate, Putnam Spirits, Someplace Special, The Center for Bone and Joint Care, Cargill Chevrolet, The Byrnes Agency or RPC Associates.
