PUTNAM --- In its 15th year, the Putnam Trick or Treat extravaganza was the best ever, according to one of its organizers.
The annual Trick or Treat event, which ran throughout downtown Oct. 28, is sponsored by the Putnam Recreation Department and WINY Radio.
Willie Bousquet, recreation director, estimated there were probably 1,500 children. "If you attach an adult to each, that would put the crowd at over 3,000 people" he said. He called it a conservative estimate.
"The weather was great, the costumes were awesome, the crowd was enthusiastic, which makes for a success," he added.
Karen Osbrey of WINY Radio also thought the weather was a wonderful component this year. "The kids were so polite and everyone was in a happy mood."
She added that she thought this was "one of the best Trick or Treat nights ever."
Bousquet said "the Putnam Recreation Department and WINY thank everyone involved including the merchants, Putnam Police, Congregational Church of Putnam, the Putnam Police Union's monetary donation for candy, the Putnam Fire Department and town civic groups."
"This is a wholesome, fun, safe activity for northeastern Connecticut," Bousquet added.
"This is one of my favorite events," said Osbrey.
