WOODSTOCK --- First Selectman, Allan D. Walker Jr. announced that the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Public Works facility has is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 19 at 215 Coatney Hill Road in Woodstock.  The community is invited to tour the new facility and enjoy complimentary refreshments.
The new facility uses more than 14,000 square feet of garage space and features drive-through garage bays, materials storage bins, a code-compliant truck washing bay, an improved fuel depot, space to store and protect expensive town equipment, an updated vehicle maintenance area, and office space.  The new salt shed, measuring more than 15,000 square feet, will allow salt and sand to be mixed and loaded indoors.  Preventing future contamination and properly managing drainage was a top priority throughout the project.  Solar panels, radiant floor heating, and a wood burning furnace will serve to offset operating costs.  Going forward, Recreation department activities will be conducted from this new facility as well.  STEAP grants totaling $500,000 were used to reduce taxpayer expense of this $2.9 million dollar project.
According to Treasurer, Barbara Rich, “The Highway Study Group, past and present Selectmen, and many concerned citizens have worked diligently for nearly eight years to address the serious shortcomings in this critical area of the Town infrastructure.  This project is the last major necessary upgrade.”
