A new funding source is available for municipalities and nonprofits who work with historical and cultural resources.  The Last Green Valley, Inc. (TLGV) has announced a grant program to interpret and/or market those resources in the region.  The Fall 2011 TLGV Grants will provide between $500 and $5,000 in a competitive process, with the application deadline on Dec. 1.
TLGV is encouraging those projects that use digital technology and social media.
“This grant program has very specific timing,” said Crlene Cutler, TLGV eecutive drector & CEO.  “We are hoping that the funding will support innovative interpretive and promotional projects that can be completed over the winter months and be debuted in the spring at the beginning of the tourist season.”
Municipal boards, commissions or committees, schools and nonprofit organizations
(501(c) 3 or 6) are eligible to apply for the Fall 2011 TLGV Grants.  Informal citizen groups and private businesses may access grant funds by developing partnerships with an eligible entity.  Priority will be given to groups that have received no grant funding from TLGV in the past three years.  Only projects that interpret or market historical and cultural resources within The Last Green Valley will be considered eligible for this round of funding.
The Last Green Valley, Inc. is the member-supported non-profit organization working locally to preserve the irreplaceable land, water, and cultural resources of the Quinebaug and Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor.  The region includes 35 towns in northeastern Connecticut and south-central Massachusetts.  To date, the organization has distributed more than $3 million through its various grant programs.
