PUTNAM --- Oct. 28 the Putnam Police Officers Union IBPO Local #508 voted “no confidence” in the ability of one member of the department to do his duties. The Union is working with the administration and the Putnam Special Services District Authority to rectify the situation. The officer is the deputy chief, Joseph Froehlich.
IBPO Local 508 president, police officer Andrew Reed, said, "It is the sincere hope of the Union and its members that this vote not affect either the day to day operations of the department or the level of service the citizens of the Putnam Special Services District have come to expect from their police force."
In response, Froehlich said, "When Chief Hayes recommended that the Special Services District hire me in 2007 he said that he wanted to take the department in a new direction, improve the quality of criminal investigations, and improve the delivery of services to the community. Chief Hayes has issued a variety of policies and procedures and I have implemented those policies and procedures. I am confident that working together Chief Hayes and I will continue his vision for this department."
