WOODSTOCK — The Performing Arts of NE CT will present Ballet Theatre Company of West Hartford in its ninth annual production of “The Nutcracker” at 3 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Hyde Cultural Center.

The beautiful timeless tale takes Clara and her friends on an enchanting voyage through The Land of Sweets! A Nutcracker who becomes a prince, magical mice and little mice, marching toy soldiers, magnificent swirling snow flakes, waltzing flowers and childhood dreams are just a few of the treats in this classic ballet for the entire family.
For 38 years Performing Arts has brought free children’s opera performances to local children.
The Children’s Educational Opera Program will feature the Salt Marsh Opera from Stonington, and Westerly, in a presentation of “The Magic Flute” May 29. In collaboration with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Performing Arts will present the Children’s Educational Symphony Program, “American Salute,” May 1.. Both programs are free to local students from 26 local schools. More than 141,000 children have been educated and entertained over the past 38 years. Funding of the Children’s Educational Opera and Symphony Program is primarily community-based, through area business and private donations, grants, and local fund-raisers. Performing Arts serves to increase visibility and financial support for our children’s educational programs.
