Margaret Day,
town treasurer
EASTFORD — Margaret Warren Day, 100, of Eastford died Nov. 12, 2011, at Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam. She was the wife of the late John Henry Day. They were married on Sept. 28, 1934, and he died Dec. 21, 1959.
Margaret was born April 13, 1911, in Eastford, daughter of the late William S. and Lillian (Bosworth) Warren. Margaret graduated from Putnam High Business Department in June of 1929; she worked at Windham County Farm Bureau office in Putnam.
She was an active lifelong member in the Congregational Church of Eastford where she served as Sunday School teacher and Sunday School secretary as well as being active in the Women’s Fellowship of the church. Margaret was town treasurer in Eastford for 41 years from 1938-1979. She was active in youth work with the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts, 4-H Camp and Day Care. Margaret was secretary at Whitcraft Corp. in Eastford for 19 years.
On April 13, 2011, the town of Eastford declared it “Margaret Day Day” in honor of her 100 years of life.
She leaves a daughter Margaret (Peg) D. Pittman of Eastford; grandchildren Christopher J. Pittman (Jennifer) of Eastford, Denis A. Day (Marsha) of Eastford, Valerie D. Breton of Woodstock; great-grandchildren Austin, Cadence, Madalyn, Michelle and Joseph; a daughter-in-law Patricia Day of Eastford. Margaret was predeceased by her husband John Henry Day, sons Allen J. Day, Roger M. Day and Henry Warren Day; siblings William S. Warren, Carolyn W. Day and Alfred C. Warren.

Robert J. Hebert,
Korean war vet
PUTNAM — Robert J. Hebert, 79, of Killingly Avenue, died Nov. 17, 2011, at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester after a brief illness. He was born on April 21, 1932, in Burrillville, RI, to the late Leo and Viola (Rabitaille) Hebert.
He served in the Korean Conflict as a meteorologist in the U.S. Army, and worked for many years for American Optical, retiring in 1995.
He was a husband to the late Elizabeth (Crorkin) Hebert from 1955 to her death in 2007.  In his younger days, he enjoyed golf and spending time at his rustic cabin in Maine.
He leaves his wife Noella (Gadoury) Hebert; daughter Deborah Levesque (Donald); daughter Kathryn Doyle (Jim) ; grandchildren Stacy Gemma, Michelle Jennings, Joshua Levesque, Aaron, Sasha, and Christopher Wassarman and Shannon Doyle, stepchildren Alice Rapaglia, Dale Davis, Donna Quintal, and Wayne Stelmack, and four great-grandchildren.

Frank Chester Corey
BROOKLYN — Frank Chester Corey, 54, of Allen Hill Road, Brooklyn, died Nov. 15, 2011, at Day Kimble Hospital.
He was the son of the late Helen Lousie (Beers) Fontaine and the late Ferdinand Fontaine. He leaves his five sister and two brothers: Virginia Zalousek (Bernard) of Coventry, R.I., Arthur Corey (Patricia) of Putnam, Linda Groh (Lawrence) of Thompson, Janice Herrick (Mark) of N. Grosvenordale, Nancy Mahon (Edmund) of Philadelphia, Tenn., Diane Adams (James) of Brooklyn, and Alan Corey (Susan) of Union; three stepchildren Mathew Johnson, Robert Johnson, Jessica Johnson. The funeral will be held in the spring at St. Joseph Cemetery, N. Grosvenordale. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.

Arnold Johnson Sr.,
WWII vet
THOMPSON — Arnold B. Johnson Sr., 87, of Church Street, died Nov. 14, 2011, at Oakwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Webster.
He was born in New Haven, son of the late Charles and Katherine (Siersdorfer) Johnson and live in Wallingford, before moving to Thompson in 1990. He taught English in the Choate Rosemary Hall School in Wallingford from 1957 to 1990. He received his master’s from Columbia and his bachelor’s from Trinity College. Arnold was a World War II, U.S. Air Force veteran.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Harriet Hathaway (Green) Johnson of Thompson; three sons, Arnold B. Johnson Jr. of Needham, Mass., David H. Johnson of Belmont, Mass., and Charles Johnson of Revere, Mass.; a daughter, Rebecca K. Mahan of Hampton, Va.; and seven grandchildren.

Debra A. Bernier,

ROCHESTER, N.H. — Debra A. Bernier, 63, of Pheasant Lane, died Nov. 9, 201,1 at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 26, 1948, in Danielson,  the daughter of the late Marion and Daisey Hutchins. 
She lived in Connecticut all of her life and worked many years at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, as a registered nurse. She enjoyed cooking, country music and social gatherings.
She leaves her son, Jeff Bernier of Boston; daughters, Jaime Webber (Jeremy) of Canterbury, Jenna Lynes (Craig) of Strafford, N.H.; grandchildren, Jacob, Grayson, Ellyce and Bradyn.

Yvette Lupa,

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Yvette Lupa, 81, of Greenville, wife of the late John R. Lupa, died Nov. 6, 2011.
She was born in Rabat, Morocco, daughter of the late Maklouf and Rahma (Oiknine) Lugassi. She liked to travel and was fluent in the French, Spanish and Arabic languages. Yvette was very social and always found something in common to talk about with everyone she met.
She leaves two daughters, Katy Fetherston of Groton Long Point, and Sandra Gauvin (Paul) of Pomfret; son John Lupa Jr. and his fiancée Lilian Schendel of Greenville; sister Rachael (Jackie) Fleinek of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren: John Patrick Fetherston, Amy Fetherston Fanton, and Geoffrey Gauvin; and by great-grandson Oliver Fanton. She was predeceased by sisters Juliette, Jeannette, Simone, and Solange.
A Funeral Liturgy was Nov. 12 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Middletown with burial in the State Veteran’s Cemetery. Biega Funeral Home, Middletown.
