WOODSTOCK — Students from Woodstock Academy, along with Assistant Athletic Director Ann Rathbone volunteered their time assisting Academy Alum Carl Asikainen, 89’, Community Program manager for TEEG. He oversees the food pantry for the community service organization.
While making plans to distribute food to local residents Asikainen knew he would need some extra help with making deliveries to several residents in Woodstock. When he mentioned this to Rathbone, she immediately knew how the Academy could help. With a bus and several students from the Academy’s Athletic Council Asikainen had the extra help to make the deliveries. Academy students also helped load vehicles as residents drove up to TEEG’s new location in N. Grosvenordale to pick up food for Thanksgiving.
Allison Rich, a junior, was happy to help out. “It was such a great experience working with TEEG and to be able to help members in our community especially during Thanksgiving. It makes you that much more thankful for the things you have and it allowed us to give back in a positive way.
Student volunteers are already making plans on how they can organize a larger group of Academy students to help with the Dec. 20 food distribution.
