PUTNAM --- Fourth and fifth grade students in the Putnam Elementary Student Council have collected "warmth" for the last six years with all their donations going to the Putnam Family Resource Center.
This year, according to Elaine Leyko, Student Council/Community Service adviser, the outpouring of support from the local and school communities "exceeded expectations."
This year 17 students did the collections.
"We started collecting under the campaign 'Kindness Keeps Kids Cozy,'" she said.
The motto, Kindness Keeps Kids Cozy" has been the students' way of helping to make sure all children in town have the items needed to keep them warm during the cold winter season.
The 17 students have worked hard to collect hats, mittens, jackets, pajamas and blankets, she said.
Leyko said "We started collecting under the campaign Kindness Keeps Kids Cozy when they realized that many Putnam children did not have adequate clothing to keep them warm." She added the kids had a float in the Holiday Dazzle light parade the first two years of their campaign.
