Marguerite Cotnoir,

PUTNAM — Marguerite R Cotnoir, 89 of Van den Noort Street, died Dec. 30, 2011, in Putnam. Born in 1922 in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Clara (Laflamme) Cotnoir. She was a lifelong Putnam resident.
Miss Cotnoir worked as a planner and expediter for the former Belding Heminway Corticelli in Putnam for 40 years retiring in 1988. She had also worked as a hostess for the former Vernon Stiles Inn in Thompson. She was a graduate of Putnam Catholic Academy.
She was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation where she served as a Parish Trustee and volunteered for the Visitation Ministry. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Ann and the League of Catholic Women. She had also volunteered in the Day Kimball Hospital Gift Shop and for the Red Cross Blood Bank.
She leaves her brother Gerard Cotnoir of Putnam; sister, Bella Cotnoir of Putnam; sister-in-law, Pauline Cotnoir of Wilmington, Del.; nieces and nephews; and great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Leo Cotnoir and her sister-in-law Leona Cotnoir.
The Mass of Christian Burial was Jan. 3 in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, Putnam, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Donations: St. Mary Visitation Ministry, 218 Providence St., Putnam, CT 06260. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam.
Richard J. Plante,

WOODSTOCK — Richard J. Plante, 63, of Woodstock, died Dec. 23, 2011, at Oakwood Nursing Center in Webster.
He was born March 30, 1948, in Putnam, son of Mary (Lariviere) Plante and the late Ernest J. Plante. Richard worked for the Town of Putnam Highway department for many years and also worked as a machine operator at Pallflex in Putnam. He had made his home in Putnam most of his life. He enjoyed fishing and later in life playing video games.
He leaves his mother Mary of Putnam; sons – Jeffrey of Rhode Island, Christopher of Connecticut and Patrick of Connecticut; sister Linda Bellerive of Putnam; two granddaughters. He was predeceased by his wife Jacqueline (Racine) Plante and a brother Ernest Plante.

Pauline M. Edwards,

E. WOODSTOCK — Pauline (Babon) Edwards, 80, of Prospect Street, died Dec. 31, 2011. She was the wife of 42 years to Francis Howard Edwards. Born in 1931 in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Babon) Jones.
Mrs. Edwards worked at the American Optical for 22 years, and then as a housekeeper for St. Stephen’s Church in Quinebaug. She also owned and operated the Hill Top Ceramics since 1985. She enjoyed teaching and making ceramics.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her sons, Robin Wonoski of North Carolina, Roy Wonoski of Webster; daughter, Laurie Edwards of Oxford, Mass.; step-sons, Dennis Edwards of Groton and Wayne Edwards of Putnam; step daughter Sherry Engh (Peter) of E. Woodstock; brothers, John Jones of Quinebaug, and Henry Jones (Sandy) of Dudley; sister, Barbara Godfrey of Monson, Mass.; grandchildren, Jason, Heidi, Joshua, Jennifer, Jotham, Kayla, and Joshua; five great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her step-sons, the late Walter Edwards and Dale Edwards.

Barbara Kress,

THOMPSON — Barbara J. (Keyes) Kress died Dec. 31, 2011, at Christopher House in Worcester. She was the wife of 21 years of John H. Kress. They were married in 1954. He died in 1975.
Born Oct. 21, 1927, in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Ivan and Maude (Sweet) Keyes. She graduated in 1945 from Worcester’s North High School and Framingham Union School of Nursing in 1949. Barbara served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nursing Corp from 1950 – 1953 at 130th Station Army Hospital in Heidelberg, Germany.
In 1959 they moved to Reading, Penn., where over the next 15 years Barbara was a stay-at-home mom raising four children. The family always had ties to Quaddick Lake in Thompson, where they spent each summer at their cottage on the lake, setting down permanent roots in 1975 where she lived for 12 years. In 1987 she moved to Auburn, Mass. Barbara lived in Auburn until 2007 when she moved into Christopher Heights of Webster, MA. From 2009 to her death, she lived at Christopher House in Worcester. She leaves her step-son, John Kress (Sandy) of E. Lyme; son, Frederick Kress (Carla) of Putnam; daughter, Cheryl Alwine (Frank) of Milton, Vt.; son David Kress (Angela), of Thompson; daughter, Suzanne of Uxbridge, Mass.; sister, Virginia Leone (Frank) of Worcester; brother, John Keyes (Francine) of Auburn; eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter.
The Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 5 at Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 4 at the funeral home. Burial will be in W. Thompson Cemetery. Donations: Alternatives Senior Enrichment Program, 6 North St., PO Box 795, Douglas, MA 01516.
Kazmiera Vandale,

BALLOUVILLE — Kazmiera “Kay” Vandale, 89, of Ballouville, died Dec,. 29, 2011, at the Village of Waterman Lake in Greenville, R.I.
She was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Harrison, N.J., daughter of the late Philip and Mary (Lacz) Grzysiewicz.
She married Roland Vandale at St. Anne’s Church in Ballouville in 1942. She was a communicant of St. Anne’s Church in Ballouville until its closing. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and was an avid church patron and volunteered at the church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved to garden. She retired as an LPN from Westview Nursing Home.
She leaves her husband Roland; three sons; James Vandale (Ranae) of Sterling, Roland ”Danny” Vandale (Joan) of N. Stonington, and Mark Vandale (Debra) of Shelburne Falls, Mass.; daughter Nancy Young (Dan) of Gilbert, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by brothers, John and Joseph, sisters, Stephanie and Josephine.
Visitation is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Jan. 4 at Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 350 Hartford Pike, Dayville, with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Carlos Barton,

BROOKLYN — Carlos Barton, 67, died Dec. 29, 2011, at home after an extended battle with mesothelioma.
Born in Montgomery, Ala., Carlos attended school in Dayton, Ohio, before moving to Framingham, Mass., where he finished high school. At Framingham High School, he set a state long jump record that stood for over 30 years and helped lead the school football team to a state championship.
Carlos earned a naval scholarship to Harvard University. After a year and a half at Harvard, he found he preferred billiards to his economics studies and eventually moved on to UMass at Amherst, where he completed his bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1969.
He worked in research and development at Rogers Corporation for 39 years, retiring with the title of Corporate Research Fellow. His work directly contributed to the development of innovative chemical processes that resulted in numerous patents. Carlos also served on the Town of Brooklyn’s Board of Education for 12 years.
He enjoyed woodworking, football, golf, and pursuits such as kayaking, hiking and fishing. He took a particular pleasure in conducting home renovations while his children attempted to sleep. There is little he couldn’t accomplish if there was a book available on the subject.
He leaves his wife of 33 years, Hope; five children: Louise Morrison (Michael) of Brooklyn; Todd Barton (Julie) of Hampton; Peter Belitsos (Tammy) of Raleigh, N.C., Joshua Barton (Lisa) of Washington, D.C., and Travis Barton of Brooklyn; three grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry and Roger Barton; a sister, Natoma Fowler.

Anna Dugas
WEBSTER — Anna F. Dugas, 45, of Webster, died Dec. 22, 2011, at home after an illness.
She was born and raised in Webster. She graduated from the Pomfret School and graduated from American University in Washington, D.C. She earned a master’s degree in criminal justice from John Jay College in New York. She lived in Washington, New York, and Cambridge before moving back to Webster about five years ago.
She was employed by U.S. Representative Richard Neal. After leaving Washington, she worked as a probation officer for the federal government in New York City. She next was employed by a Lutheran agency as an advocate for children. After returning to Webster, she became an advocate for unwanted animals, adopting several.
She leaves her parents, Adolphe E. and Emily E. (Kokocinski) Dugas; four siblings, Susanne T. Duszlak (Stanley) of Webster, Mary F. Fura of Charlton, John A. Dugas of Las Vegas, and Elizabeth Duffy (Robert) of Prides Crossing, Mass.; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
