'Sweet 16' Relay
meeting is Jan. 18
PUTNAM — “Relay For Life of Northeast Connecticut will hold a Team Captain Kick-off Meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Putnam Elks on Edmond Street.
The theme is “sweet 16” since 2012 is the 16th year of Relay For Life in NECT.
The theme will focus on the late ’50s and early ’60s when the song “Happy Birthday Sweet 16” by Neil Sedaka was a hit song.
Many Committee members will be attired to fit that era and anyone wishing to dress appropriately is welcome to do so.
Food will be served, music provided and the fun will follow with a ‘sweet 16’ party, setting the tone for Relay For Life 2012.
New Team Captains will be able to meet other Team Captains and committee members.
Information will be available for all Team Captains. Anyone interested in starting a team, joining a team or becoming part of the committee or just curious about Relay For Life of NECT is invited to attend.
The Relay will be held May 19 and 20 at the Woodstock Fairgrounds.
Money raised by the Relay provides many services used by local people.
Although most associate Relay For Life with research, this is only a small part of how the Relay For Life funds are used.  Cancer patients or their families can call 1-800-ACS-2345 twenty four hours a day, 365 days a year for advise on treatments available.  There is a breast cancer network for women and a similar network for men with prostate cancer.  Hope Lodge provides lodging for the cancer patient and a family member when required treatment is far from home.  Road To Recovery makes sure no one misses an appointment for treatment.
