POMFRET — This year’s recent Music at Rectory School (MARS) Benefit Concert raised more than $2,000 and featured many of the talented local teachers, alumni and special guests Proceeds benefitted the MARS Scholarship Fund.
The MARS program is a unique after-school program that brings high quality music instruction to students throughout the local community of northeast Connecticut. Rectory’s own Jacqueline Smith, director of the Arts and MARS program, and Donna Bessette, director of Drama, both performed numbers alongside alumni Chris Lucier’00, Johnny Helyar’06, and Hannah Smith’08. “I was extremely pleased with the concert this year as we have so many outstanding teachers in the MARS program. The music was a nice mix of classical, jazz, Broadway, and folk. We even had a performance by the Nautilus Brass Quintet and the Breakin’ Through II Dance Company,” said Smith. “It was an opportunity for our music teachers to collaborate to bring music instruction to any student with a desire to learn to play an instrument.”
