Melanie Mills the NEPSAC Class C Tournament Most Valuable Player led the Lady Knights of Marianapolis to a school first-ever ladies’ basketball championship.  The Lady Knights bested Kimball Union of Vermont in the title game held in Dedham, Mass.
Mills turned in another stellar all-around tournament performance in leading her team to victory.  She finished the championship game with 12 points, 10 rebounds, six steals, three assists and three blocked shots.  Her performance made her the runaway selection for tourney MVP honors.
Junior Sydney, an all star selection, was the high scorer for Marianapolis posting 14 points and eight rebounds to go along with three assists and three steals.  Julia Ford, who had an outstanding tournament, was also in double figures with 11 points.  Jill Bodreau had eight points and Maggie Dalton-Hoffman six in the winning effort.  Sara Morrow (2) and Becky Stolz (3) rounded out the scoring for the champs.
Marianapolis went into the locker room at intermission with a slim two-point advantage 21-19.  A tenacious second half, in which the Lady Knights controlled the boards, was the difference, as they outscored Kimball Union 35-30 after halftime.
The victory closes out the season at a sparkling 22-4 for the proud Lady Knights.
The Marianapolis Lady Knights of coach Charles Baron reached the championship contest against Kimball Union with a pair of NEPSAC Class C victories.
In the quarterfinal round they faced 14-5 Canterbury School.  A total team effort, which saw four players score in double figures, helped the Lady Knights roll to an 81-68 victory.  The win set up a semifinal matchup with the Lincoln School.
Melanie Mills, Marianapolis’ senior 1000-point scorer, paced the scoring parade with 18 points.  She was joined in double digits by Sarah Morrow who turned in a stellar performance, netting 16 points.  Junior Sydney Latour had 13 points as did Jill Bodreau.  Bodreau had four three-pointers.
Maggie Dalton-Hoffman chipped in nine markers for the winners and Becky Stolz with a pair of three-pointers had six as did Julia Ford.
The following day in the semifinals, Marianapolis used a big second half against Lincoln School to propel them into the championship contest.  Leading 23-22 at intermission, the Lady Knights outscored their opponents 38-27 for a solid 61-49 victory.
The duo of Mill (18) and Latour (16) combined for 34 of the team’s 61 point total.  Latour was tremendous from the charity stripe where she connected for a dozen of her 16 points.  Ford had an outstanding performance with 13 points as the lady Knights improved to 21-4 entering the title game.
