PUTNAM — Have you ever competed in a spelling bee? Would you like to? Well you can have your five minutes of spelling bee fame on the Bradley stage when the Theatre of Northeastern Connecticut presents “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” which opens on March 16 and runs for three weekends.
Volunteer guest spellers from the audience will be asked to join the cast on stage during each performance to compete in the spelling bee. Some well known local “celebrities” have already signed on. Four guests will compete in each “bee.”
On March 16 the scheduled guests are Erica Kesselman, M.D., and Monique Wolanin, director of College Development at QVCC. . Paul Sweet, Plainfield first selectman will compete on March 17. Spellers on March 23 are Gary and Karen Osbrey of WINY, Linda Colangelo and Laura Crosetti. Senator Donald Williams, Jr. competes on March 24. The guest speller on March 25 is Ross Tomlin, president of QVCC and Marc Cerrone, M.D. will be on stage on March 30. Christian Dee, M.D. is the guest on March 31. On April 1 the guest speller is Tim Richards, head of School at Pomfret School.
Gary Osbrey is looking forward to spelling “We are delighted to be included in the show. Karen should do well because she’s an excellent speller. I will probably struggle since Karen always beats me at Scrabble. This show is hilarious and we can’t wait to participate.”
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. March 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31 and at 2 p.m. 18, 25 and April 1. Tickets are $21 for adults and $18 for seniors and students. Tickets: www. thebradleyplayhouse.org, 928-7887, Wonderland Books , or Victoria Station Café in Putnam.
