POMFRET — On May 5 the 6th Annual Town Wide Tag Sale will be held. It’s sponsored by the Pomfret Proprietors, a local merchants group. Starting at 7 a.m., you can purchase a map to guide you to the many participating residences, businesses and organizations spread throughout town. Last year almost 60 locations offered bargains. A number of locations are fund-raising for their organizations, so your purchases will also benefit a good cause. A Town Wide Tag Sale Map makes bargain hunting a breeze. Maps will be sold for $1 at Pomfret Community School. Profits from map sales and registrations benefit a local charity or community project.
After getting your map, visit the school cafeteria where the Friends of the Pomfret Public Library will host a Used Book & Tag Sale from 7 a.m. until noon, featuring current fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, biographies, and usually a lot of mystery/suspense. Most books are $1 for hardcovers and trade paperbacks, 50 cents for regular paperbacks, plus a $5 Bag Sale from 11 a.m. to noon (excluding individually priced books). Tag sale items will run the gamut. All profits benefit the Pomfret Public Library.
The Pomfret Horse & Trail Association’s tag sale, including tack related items at Meadow Rock Farm off Rt. 169. A percentage of proceeds will be donated to the Wyndham Land Trust (conserving over 1,200 acres of open space in northeastern CT); the rest will be used for local trail maintenance. Another mile north on Rt. 169, you’ll find Christ Church’s Colossal Rummage Sale (8 a.m. to 1 p.m.). This indoor sale benefits the youth group “Journey to Adulthood” Summer Pilgrimage and features lots of great bargains.
The 57th Annual Windham County 4-H Fundraiser, a two-day tag sale, runs from noon to 6 p.m. May 5 and 6. There is also an auction of goods and services on both days (preview at 5 p.m. and auction at 6). Many items are donated from local businesses to support this popular youth camp and the Ragged Hill Woods Environmental Education programs.
