NECONN win
The NECONN Tigers won their “Sweet Sixteen” Connecticut Cup match May 19 in Ridgefield. NECONN scored during the 70th minute of their game, on a direct kick from 30 yards out. A frustrated Ridgefield team attacked aggressively for the remainder of the game, but could not find any weakness in NECONN’s defense.
Having only enough players to field a team, the Tigers played a full 90 minutes under a hot sun with no substitutes.
“All of our girls played an outstanding game”, said coach Syd Blodgett. “I feel that this game was won through their mental toughness and an unfailing, winning attitude.”
The statewide, single-elimination tournament will resume June 2.
