The Regional Community YMCA, planned for construction on Kennedy Drive in Putnam received a big boost from Cargill Chevrolet, Cargill Quick Lube &Wash, and the Breault family with a pledge of $50,000 toward the project.  The gift, which will be matched by an anonymous donor, brings the community support to $1.9 million, as the campaign moves closer to its goal of $2.5 million.
“The community and people of northeastern Connecticut have been good to us and this is one way we can say thank you for their support over the years.  The Y is an organization that will benefit the people of our region in a variety of ways,” said Roger Breault.
James O’S Morton, president and CEO of the Greater Hartford YMCA, said, “We’re extremely pleased that Cargill Chevrolet and the Breault family have stepped forward with this major gift.  Their investment in the project is a demonstration of the value they place in the programs and services the Y provides.  I am humbled by their generous gift and their belief in the positive impact the Y will have on the quality of life for the residents of northeastern Connecticut.”
The community portion of the campaign to raise $2.5 million recently received news that an anonymous donor has pledged $250,000 if those funds are matched by community donations.  The $50,000 gift from Cargill Chevrolet brought the total match to date to $140,000.  Overall, approximately $8.7 million are accounted for with the original gift of $3 million from the Newell D. Hale Foundation and a $3.745 million grant from the state.
Bob Breault said, “Putnam and northeastern Connecticut will receive a significant economic boost from the YMCA.  Projects like the Y enhance the community and make it a more attractive locale to visit, live and do business.  We’re pleased to be a part of this very exciting project.”
