The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut’s Windham Area Women & Girls Fund announced it received a challenge grant from the Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation. Together, the two organizations are uniquely positioned to affect the well-being of women and girls living in Windham and the surrounding towns. The Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation and the Fund hold the shared belief that when you invest in a woman’s success, there is a ripple effect that spreads across her family, the community and future generations, too.
The Challenge Grant is designed to grow the Fund’s permanent endowment. Each dollar given to the Fund will be matched by the Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation: $20 becomes $40; $100 becomes $200, $1,000 becomes $2,000.
The benefits of a permanent endowment for the Women & Girls Fund are significant. An endowment guarantees the Fund a steady revenue stream for grant making purposes. It also offers a strong, solid presence within the community, and ensures the Fund’s future stability and the endowment will sustain the Fund’s mission in perpetuity: to break through inequities and injustices that hold women back, and, help to build a brighter future for women and girls in the Windham area.
Three Women & Girls Funds (in the greater Norwich Area, Southeast CT, and Windham Area) are part of a special initiative at the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut. Now in its 28th year, the Community Foundation encourages local giving and makes more than $2 million in grant and scholarship awards annually to organizations and students in 42 towns in eastern Connecticut.
