MADD honors 2
PUTNAM — Two veteran Putnam Police Department officers were honored by the Connecticut Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving for their efforts to curb drunken driving.
The group honored Sgt. Louis Cinque, an officer with more than 15 years on the Putnam force, and Canine Officer Brian Castle, who has more than 10 years in the Putnam department.
Cinque and Castle were among 144 Connecticut Law Enforcement Officers recognized from throughout Connecticut for their efforts to prevent drunken and impaired driving through enforcement and education.
Putnam Police Chief Rick L. Hayes said, “We’re very proud of our men who were recognized.  These two gentlemen have responded to the statewide effort to curb drunk driving in a special way.  They certainly deserve the recognition.”
Since Jan. 1 the Putnam Police Department has made 64 OUI arrests. Cinque and  Castle have accounted for 73 percent of that total. Sgt. Lee Konicki said, “Keeping the streets of Putnam safe for pedestrians and other drivers is something our department takes very seriously.  Our goal is not only saving a life but to help intoxicated drivers to understand the responsibility they have when they get behind the wheel.” He added, “ Individuals who believe they are witnessing an intoxicated or drugged driver within our Special Services District is urged to contact the Department immediately.” The number is 928-6565.
